Day 31: It's Time !
Here we go ! It's a new year. Time to get back on track with diet and exercise. The goal is 100 pounds by 12-31-25. Can I do it ? Well, I won't know unless I try. My original Day 31 blog can be found here. It was titled "Follow Your Vision" and I haven't been doing that. I keep visualizing myself thin again but I'm not putting in the work needed to get there. Today is the day I'm going to do it !
Breakfast was 180 calorie waffles with sugar free syrup. Around noon I had an 80 calorie yogurt. I didn't have a morning snack. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt. I didn't have an afternoon snack. Dinner was 220 calorie rotini with meatballs and a bag of broccoli that I dressed with about a tablespoon of butter (45 calories), some seasoning that contains lemon pepper & salt, and a shake of garlic & onion powder. It made the broccoli so delicious ! Early evening I was starving so I had a can of mandarin oranges (110 calories), which should have been part of my afternoon snack. Evening snack was a 140 calorie lemon zest cake with whipped cream. I made it through the day with NO extras !
I was awake just before 8 am and it was SO nice to feel like the house is warm ! As of 10 am it's 31 degrees and the high for today is 40. It was 65 upstairs and 68 in the dining room. I didn't check the laundry room but I don't think it was at 68. It may get close to that later. There is some residual snow in the driveway that I want to address and today is the perfect day for it. The low for tomorrow night is 10 and whatever is out there will freeze if I don't shovel it away today. There is also rain/snow forecast to start in the a couple hours and I don't want that on top of what is already out there. Doug did plow yesterday so that helps ! This will count as exercise if I can't manage to get myself on the treadmill. I do have my tablet charging, so we'll see.
I completed my Monday morning job of certifying my unemployment claim. I forgot to mention in yesterday's blog that I placed an order from the Disney store. When I was at Disney in 2023 I bought the "2024" Christmas ornament and they came out with the same one for 2025. I really wanted it and I also bought a 2nd one to give to Lauren. I feel like I didn't give her enough for Christmas, so I'm going to tell a little white lie about forgetting to give it to her. She bought a new larger Christmas tree for her room last year, which is why I thought of it. I gave her 2 bottles of wine and a $15 Starbucks gift card but I felt like she was disappointed. I also bought myself a Tinkerbell t-shirt. My order was $135.92 and I will call this a little treat for myself. It may be delivered as early as Thursday !
Today was going to be a better day until I saw the low temps for Tuesday and Wednesday. 10 and 14 isn't going to freeze pipes but the colder it is the more my heat struggles and the higher my utility bill goes. I checked in on my bank account this morning to ensure the mortgage, medical/dental insurance and internet payments posted. My car insurance says it was paid but I don't see the deduction from my account yet. I scheduled my credit card payment for later this month. I don't have a new utility bill yet, so it remains to be seen how high that is going to be. When I calculated my annual expenses I factored in the higher heating costs, so it's not really a shock. Overall I've saved a bit by keeping the thermostat lower but this winter has been exceptionally cold so that has likely erased any savings. Perhaps a milder February will offset that. We'll see !
I checked in on all my slot games this morning and the coin situation hasn't really changed. Dancing Drums did produce some big wins but I played all of the coins I gained. I kept the 80M I started with ! 88 Fortunes sucked all my coins and there are few opportunities to earn any. Same thing with Quick Hits and Lightning Link. CluBillion has 26B coins and I'm up to 535 friends. I had 52 free gifts this morning and we'll see what I get throughout the day. Seems lazy if people can't return coin gifts. I completed all the daily challenges so there's no reason to play this game until tonight when the challenges reset. It's tempting but I'm going to focus on Cookie Jam today. Well, my 2nd cup of coffee is done so it's time to get dressed and go shovel some snow before my ass is permanently attached to the couch !
I went outside about 11:02 and I was back inside by 11:58 ! I think that 56 minutes of shoveling snow far exceeds the calorie burn of anything I would have done on the treadmill today ! I shoveled the whole driveway (other than the very bottom by the road) and the front steps. There was only a couple inches in the driveway but along both sides was heavy wet stuff that Doug didn't get. I like the driveway wider than he plows, so I always shovel the sides. It's makes it easier for me to get the car out. Many years ago the driveway would get narrower and narrower as winter went on, because we didn't keep up with the sides and anyone who ever plowed didn't do it wide enough. This is why I work hard at keeping it wide all winter. It's good exercise for me anyway. I had my yogurt and a diet coke when I came in. I saw a white pickup go by after I came in and I was thinking it was Doug .. but I don't think it was. He's famous for showing up just as I finish a shoveling job ! Nothing against him, if I asked him to come and plow he would. Looking at myself in the security camera footage is sobering, as it shows just how enormous I am. When I sat down with my yogurt and soda I almost grabbed the pretzel sticks, but then I remembered I had the bucket of pretzel rods within reach. I was so worried about having food within reach ! That's my own fault as I have a habit of delaying eating until it's a crisis and I need something fast. There is no reason for that as Nutrisystem has you eating 6 times a day. I don't eat enough during the day and it's contributing to nighttime hunger. It's my usual lunch time now and I just "finished" breakfast and haven't had my morning snack, which is usually a protein shake. I am going to get off my ass and go make that shake. It ends today ! No more of this bullshit and all these excuses for eating whatever I want whenever I want. Part of my problem is I don't want traditional salad anymore as lettuce is tiny and expensive in the winter. There are also too many produce recalls ! I'm going to buy cucumbers & red onion and start making salad with that ! I also want to try the viral cucumber salad that uses soy sauce, sesame oil, chili crunch oil & rice wine vinegar. It was all over social media last summer and really sounds delicious. I can eat as much cucumber & onion as I want ! Of course, that means a trip to the grocery store ! Right now I have plenty of frozen veggies, so I can sub those in. I don't have a mandolin but my box grater has a side that would do the trick. I could also just slice by hand ! I also want to buy some canned green beans as I just like them better and I think I would be more inclined to eat them. I've gotten bored with veggies and I think that's just because I've made zero effort to jazz them up with things like garlic or lemon or something like chili crunch, which I can buy right at Walmart ! My lack of success has nothing to do with the Nutrisystem food. I love everything that I get each month but of course the junk I used to eat is always going to taste better !
I downloaded the ring footage of my fat ass. It is absolutely horrifying. I discovered I have a new app with my Microsoft 365 subscription called Clipchamp. It allows you to edit videos ! I took 3 screenshots. See below.
