Day 40: A Day From Hell

Here we go ! It's a new year. Time to get back on track with diet and exercise. The goal is 100 pounds by 12-31-25. Can I do it ? At this point, probably not but I'm going to keep trying. My original Day 40 blog can be found here. I had taken a vacation day due to an impending snow storm. Hmm, that sword is hanging over my head again right now ! We have a winter weather advisory from 4 pm today through 4 am tomorrow. Friday looks to be snow-free but there is a chance of snow Saturday through Tuesday. We're also looking at single digit overnight lows Monday and Tuesday. Apparently winter is never going to relent !

Breakfast was 180 calorie Eggo waffles. I didn't have a yogurt or morning snack. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt. I didn't have an afternoon snack. Dinner was a pizza, calories beyond what I should have. Evening snack will be cherry pie and possibly some ice cream.

So this morning started off just fine although I awake much too early. It was just after 5 am and I am never up that early. I didn't want to go back to sleep and then end up feeling like a truck ran over me, so I got up, took a shower and washed my hair. That felt so good ! I fed the cats (mama cat showed up as soon as the dry food hit the bowl) and then had my breakfast. Once that was done I completed my skincare. I spent the morning playing online slots and watching YouTube but shortly after noon I got a notification that my Amazon order was being delivered today. I went out to the front porch to unlock the door and noticed one of the curtains was caught up on something. When I walked over I saw that a window was broken ! I have no idea how long it's been like that. There was snow and ice on the inside of the porch, so I'd guess it's been like that for a while. So I decided to head to Lowe's and get the glass replaced with plexiglass. No problem right ? Wrong ! I got the freaking car stuck in the driveway ! The right side wheels slipped off the side into the deep snow and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it out. I called AAA and about 1:40 a tow truck arrived. Once the car was hooked up it took 2 minutes to get it out and ready to roll. I gave the guy $20 tip and then headed to Lowe's. Just before 3 pm I was home and by 3:30 the window was repaired. I was $40+ poorer but happy to have that taken care of. I KNEW I didn't like the angle when I parked the car yesterday !!!! I should have just backed up and tried again instead of saying I'd deal with it the next time I went out. Yeah right .. I dealt with it all right ! While I waited for the tow truck I did some shoveling along the sides of the driveway. I couldn't sit inside waiting, I needed to be moving to keep my mind from spinning out of control. When I came home I accidentally turned into the gas station instead of my street, so I stopped in and picked up a half gallon of milk and 2 pints of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. The stress of my day led me to thinking about food, of course. First I was thinking of getting Tully's tenders to go since I was going to be in Oswego. Then I thought about going to KFC to get their chicken tender & mashed potato bowl. I managed to push those impulses away, but that accidental turn into the gas station was my undoing. I also thought about getting chinese, but pushed that thought away since I had the pizza stuff. While I was cleaning up the broken glass on the porch I noticed an old man lingering around my door, which was unlocked since Amazon was coming. I went to the door and asked him if he needed help and he said he did. He was looking for "Rachel" and I assumed he meant Doug's daughter, who is the next house. I sent him on his way but then thought I should let someone know about this strange guy. I called Doug and he called Rachel. Turns out it was her step-father who has dementia and he had WALKED from Colosse, looking for his favorite water bottle ! OMG. I am so glad the poor guy made it here safely. Doug gave me Rachel's # so I have it for emergencies and I told him he could give her mine if she wanted it. I'll keep an eye out for this guy going forward. He looked like your 1890's gold prospector ! Scraggly white beard with brown staining. Flannel shirt. Jeans. Military cap. So sad that he was able to wander off. You hear about seniors with dementia going out in the freezing cold and being found dead from exposure. I'd hate to see that happen to this man !

Another disappointment today was I went bankrupt on Jackpot World ! I really thought this app would never let that happen, as up to now any time my coins got really low I would win, win, win and build them right back up. Ironically, I logged back in around 6:30 and bam .. 48B coins ! Dancing Drums let me win and I have plenty of coins to play with there. 88 Fortunes and Quick Hits are still stingy with coins. It sucks because both apps have old casino games that I really enjoy. Lightning Link is letting me win a little, but it's a continual chase for coins.

So it's 5:50 pm now and I've had my pizza dinner and I'm on the couch for the night in my nightgown. Being up so early today I had every intention of getting on the treadmill, but I got my exercise playing in the snow and doing window repairs. I have no idea how the window got broken. Could have been the wind or it could have been a piece of ice from the village snow blower that comes by to clear the sidewalk. My money is on the wind as we've had several rounds of very high winds. If it blows out my plexi it should be easy enough to pop it back in ! When I got home today I pulled the car in at an angle so I should be able to back straight out and not end up stuck again ! I have a bunch of bags of concrete mix that were never used and are hard as rocks. I'm thinking of unwrapping them and putting them end to end along the driveway. I could spray paint them green so they blend in. That way if I drive along the edge of the driveway in winter the car won't sink. We'll see what I can do once all the freaking snow is gone. While I was out there playing in the snow and waiting for the tow truck Doug came by. He was using his tractor to move snow for the neighbor across the street. I paid him and we chatted for a couple minutes. He had sold his tractor so I'm wondering if he got some life insurance money when his wife passed and used it to buy a new one. He was saying he'd like to get a snowblower attachment for it, so I guess money is not tight ! I'm happy for him. It's always hard on seniors when they lose their partner and their associated income !

Since I was up so early I'm sure I will have no trouble going to sleep tonight ! It's only 6 pm and I'm yawning. I could easily climb in bed right now ! I'm SO glad I showered this morning. For one, since I was clean and dressed it was easy to just throw on my shoes and head out. For another, it just feels good to be clean and have freshly washed hair. Speaking of hair, yesterday I was looking at shampoo at Walmart and with a $9 bottle of it in my hand I spotted a clearance item for $2 a bottle ! It was Suave brand, which I've used before. I put down the $9 bottle and bought 3 bottles of shampoo and one of conditioner. That was pretty much all that was left. I'm guessing it's a discontinued item, but who cares ?!?! I spent $8 for 4 bottles of product instead of $9 for one ! Turns out I have a giant bottle of shampoo (I forgot about it!) but now I have plenty in stock. With my hair shorter I plan to wash it more frequently. I briefly considered stopped at the Supercuts in Oswego today but I wanted to get home before the commuter traffic started and I wanted to get that window fixed. I'll go to a salon some day soon.

It's almost 7:30 and I'm tired, so I'm finalizing this blog early. I'll watch some more YouTube and play more online slots, then head to bed. It's been quite a day .. quite a week .. quite a winter ! COME ON SPRING !!!!
